Damien never moved back into Crosshaven Manor.
He entered once to remove personal belongings.
The living room had been cleaned.
The blood was gone.
The cash box remained in evidence.
The pool reflected the evening sky.
Nothing in the architecture looked ashamed.
Nora walked through the house with Eli several weeks later.
Aliceās room in the staff wing remained nearly untouched.
Her uniform hung behind the door.
Her reading glasses rested beside the bed.
Nora found a letter beneath the mattress.
For Nora and Eli.

The guest houses became temporary residences for employees leaving abusive workplaces.
The pool remained.
No plaque celebrated Celesteās humiliation.
A statement near the terrace doors read:

Damien completed court-ordered community service at the center.
He assembled furniture.
Moved records.
Attended counseling.
He did not control the program.
Nora served on the governing board but refused to make every decision.
