Chapter 16 - GRAHAM’S SENTENCE

Graham pleaded guilty to fraud, conspiracy, pension theft, and obstruction.

His cooperation helped convict Victor and Celeste.

It reduced his sentence.

It did not erase it.

At sentencing, Graham looked toward Damien.

“I loved you like a brother.”

Damien answered from the witness podium.

“You also helped drug me.”

“I was afraid.”

“You were paid.”

“Yes.”

“You knew about Alice.”

“Yes.”

The judge sentenced Graham to fourteen years.

Afterward, reporters asked whether Damien would visit him.

“No.”

“Do you forgive him?”

“I understand parts of how he became involved.”

“That is not forgiveness.”

“Will you ever work with him again?”

“No.”

A friendship could contain real history and still become unsafe beyond repair.

Graham wrote several letters from prison.

Damien read the first.

It contained apology, explanation, and requests for contact.

Damien placed it inside the legal archive.

He did not answer.
