Chapter 2: The Flashpoint

The man finally stepped away from the bed.

The crisp white fabric of his tailored shirt shifted as he walked toward the towering windows overlooking the sprawling estate.

His confidence filled the room.

He believed he controlled every move.

Without turning around, he slipped one hand into his pocket.

"I'll give you sixty seconds," he said almost casually.

"After that, every file goes public."

A pause.

"And when it does..."

He glanced over one shoulder.

"Your husband won't have a life left to protect."

The words echoed through the room.

The woman lowered her eyes.

Not in defeat.

In precision.

She looked directly at the exact place beneath the bed where she knew her husband was hiding.

Then...

The smallest nod.

Barely noticeable.

A signal only one person in the world would understand.

She rose slowly to her feet.

The silk robe whispered against the floor as she deliberately stepped into the man's path, forcing him to focus entirely on her.

"You really think you've already won?" she asked.

Her voice wasn't shaking anymore.

It had become cold.

Sharp.

Almost frightening.

While his attention remained locked on her...

A shadow slipped silently from beneath the bed.

The husband emerged without making a sound.

His black tuxedo blended into the room's darker corners as he rose to his full height behind the man.

His heartbeat slowed.

May you like

His breathing steadied.

His eyes never left his target.
