Chapter 1: The Weight of Silence

The bedroom looked almost too perfect to be real.

Morning sunlight poured through towering arched windows, flooding the white walls with a warm glow. The silk sheets remained untouched except for the woman sitting rigidly at the edge of the enormous bed. Every muscle in her body was locked in place. Her hands rested in her lap, fingers intertwined so tightly her knuckles had turned pale.

A single tear escaped before she could stop it.

It slid silently down her cheek.

Across from her, the man smiled.

He didn't rush. He never rushed.

With slow, deliberate confidence, he leaned closer, invading every inch of her personal space until she could feel his breath.

His dark wavy hair shimmered beneath the sunlight, but there was nothing warm about his expression.

Only calculation.

Only control.

"You're too intelligent to keep pretending," he said quietly, his voice smooth enough to sound almost comforting. "Every second you wait makes this worse."

Silence settled over the room.

Underneath the bed, another battle was being fought.

Flat against the freezing marble floor, her husband forced himself not to move.

The polished stone pressed against his cheek as every instinct screamed at him to explode out from hiding.

Not yet.

He inhaled through his nose—slowly... carefully... refusing to let even the faintest breath escape loud enough to betray him.

From where he lay, he could see the delicate lace hem of his wife's white robe swaying only inches from his face.

His fists tightened until pain shot through his fingers.

He wanted blood.

Instead...

He waited.

Because one mistake would destroy everything.
