CHAPTER 4: THE TRUTH BEHIND THE SCAN
The tension broke only when Dr. Harris spoke again—sharper this time.
“Stop.”
Both of them froze.
“This is not a case of betrayal,” he said firmly.
He tapped the monitor again.
“This marker… is not from another man.”
Silence.
Emma stopped breathing.
Daniel narrowed his eyes. “Then what is it?”
Dr. Harris turned the screen fully toward them.
And said the words that changed everything:
“This is a genetic anomaly that only occurs when the mother carries a hidden chimeric condition.”
Emma blinked.
“What…?”
The doctor softened his voice slightly.
“You were born with two genetic cell lines. That means your body can create more than one DNA signature in a single pregnancy.”
Daniel stared at him.
“That’s impossible.”
“It’s rare,” Dr. Harris corrected. “Not impossible.”
Emma’s eyes filled with confusion and fear.
“So my baby… is mine?”
The doctor nodded.
“Yes.”
A pause.
“But biologically… it may carry two genetic identities from you alone.”
Daniel said nothing.
For the first time, he looked at Emma differently—not with anger…
But with realization.
And fear.
Because what they thought was betrayal…
Was something far more dangerous.
Something neither of them understood yet.

As Emma sat up slowly, still shaking, Dr. Harris quietly added one last line:
“There is something else in your scans I haven’t told you yet.”
Daniel turned sharply.
Emma whispered:
“What else…?”
