CHAPTER 2: THE UNEXPECTED IMAGE
The monitor beeped softly in the dim room.
Dr. Harris pointed at a section of the scan.
“There is a second formation here,” he said carefully. “Not part of a normal single pregnancy.”
Emma’s breath caught.
“A second…?” she repeated.
Daniel’s face tightened instantly.
“That’s impossible,” he snapped. “She said she wasn’t with anyone else.”
Emma flinched like she had been struck.
“I didn’t—” she started.
But Daniel cut her off.
“You expect me to believe this child is mine?”
The words hit harder than the silence before.
Emma’s eyes filled, but she didn’t cry. She just stared at him like she was trying to understand when he stopped believing in her.
Dr. Harris raised a hand slightly.
“I am not making a judgment,” he said firmly. “I am explaining what I see.”
