Chapter 3 – The Brother Who Never Forgot

The ambulance doors slammed shut just after midnight.

Red and blue lights washed across the rain-soaked streets as Emma fought to stay conscious. Every bump in the road sent another wave of pain through her body.

"Stay with me, Emma," the paramedic urged. "Your baby's heartbeat is still strong."

Emma clung to those words.

Still strong.

That was enough.

At St. Catherine Medical Center, a team of doctors rushed her into the emergency maternity unit. Nurses surrounded her, attaching monitors while an obstetrician studied the ultrasound screen.

"There is a partial placental abruption," Dr. Olivia Carter said calmly. "The baby is stable for now, but we have to stop the bleeding."

Emma nodded weakly.

"Please... save my son."

"We're going to do everything we can."

Minutes later, the waiting room doors burst open.

A tall man in a soaked black coat strode inside with remarkable composure.

Ethan Bennett.

Emma's older brother.

At thirty-eight, Ethan had built Bennett Cyber Security into one of the country's most respected digital forensic firms. He rarely showed emotion, but everyone who knew him understood one thing:

The quieter he became, the more dangerous the situation was.

The receptionist barely finished speaking before he reached Emma's physician.

"My sister?"

"She's alive."

"And my nephew?"

"The heartbeat is strong."

Only then did Ethan allow himself a slow breath.

"What happened?"

The doctor hesitated.

"She collapsed after a confrontation with her husband."

Ethan looked at the bloodstained blanket being wheeled toward the laundry room.

His jaw tightened.

"That's not what I asked."

The emergency room nurse who had accompanied Emma stepped forward.

"I saw the videos online," she said softly. "Your sister wasn't simply abandoned."

She handed Ethan her phone.

The livestream had already spread across every major social media platform.

Millions of people had watched Damien Rhodes order security to remove his visibly pregnant wife.

Millions had watched Emma collapse.

Millions had watched him stand still while she bled.

Ethan watched the entire video without speaking.

When it ended, he handed the phone back.

"Is that all?" he asked.

The nurse frowned.

"What do you mean?"

"If someone filmed the ballroom..."

His eyes narrowed.

"...someone also filmed what happened before she fell."

At that exact moment, his own phone vibrated.

A secure message had arrived from an unknown number.

It contained only one sentence.

I have the full security footage. They don't know I copied it.

Ethan stared at the message for several seconds.

Then, for the first time that night, he smiled.

It wasn't a smile of relief.

May you like

It was the smile of a man who had just realized the truth had survived.

And someone inside Damien Rhodes' empire was ready to bring it down.
