The attacker suddenly laughed—forced, unstable.
“This is about that little shove? You’re destroying my life over pride?”
I looked at him for a long moment.
Then I shook my head.
“No.”
I took one step closer.
“You didn’t just attack me.”
Silence tightened.
“You attacked someone you didn’t recognize.”
A second pause.
Then I said it clearly:
“You attacked the person funding half the institutions that protect your family name.”
The ballroom erupted in stunned silence.
