Lucy returned to nursing school.
The public attention followed her for several months.
Some classmates treated her differently after learning about the inheritance.
Lucy continued using the same backpack.
She continued working weekend shifts.
When tuition bills arrived, she accepted help from the trust only after reading the education policy herself.
Teresa smiled when Lucy insisted on reviewing every clause.
“Granduncle Manuel would be proud.”
“Grandma Isabel would be prouder.”
Lucy graduated with honors.
At the ceremony, Teresa wore a simple blue dress.
She sat beside Arthur and Tomas.
Rafael attended quietly from the back row.
After receiving her diploma, Lucy found Teresa outside.
“I want to create a community clinic.”
“With your nursing degree?”
“With the trust.”
Teresa felt cautious.
“What kind?”
“One where domestic workers, farmworkers, and their children can receive care without worrying about immigration questions or impossible bills.”
Teresa thought of Isabel asking Manuel for money to buy medicine.
Help had existed behind a closed door.
Lucy wanted to build a door that remained open.
The Isabel Morales Cardenas Community Clinic opened eighteen months later.
Lucy used both of her grandmother’s surnames.
