Chapter 15 - The Son Who Blamed His Father

Jonathan arrived at the hospital on a private flight.
He did not run.
He walked through the main entrance with two attorneys and requested to see Raymond.
The father and son had not stood in the same room for eight years.
Jonathan looked older than his forty-three years.
Grief had hardened his face.
“You used your daughter’s death to justify another child’s murder,” Raymond said.
Jonathan’s eyes flashed.
“My daughter died because you protected this hospital.”
“I did not know about the trial.”
“You were chairman.”
“You signed every research budget.”
“Victor hid the patient list.”
“You should have seen it.”
Raymond accepted the accusation.
“Yes.”
“I should have.”
Jonathan had spent years tracing the men responsible.
At first, he wanted justice.
Then he found the investors.
They convinced him the research itself was valuable.
They promised that continuing it would make his daughter’s death meaningful.
Grief became ambition.
Ambition became cruelty.
Jonathan funded Vanessa’s company.
He ordered Lawrence to obtain Emily’s baby.
He ordered Victor to administer the experimental treatment.
When the hospital investigation began, he changed the order.
The baby became evidence.
Evidence had to disappear.
Emily watched through the glass.
Jonathan saw her.
“I never wanted you hurt.”
“You ordered people to take my son.”
“I wanted the program exposed.”
“You could have called the police.”
“They would protect the hospital.”
Emily shook her head.
“You did not want truth.”
“You wanted everyone to suffer as much as you did.”
Jonathan’s face collapsed for one second.
Then he looked toward Raymond.
“You chose the hospital over my child.”
Raymond answered quietly.
“And you chose revenge over hers.”
Police arrested Jonathan.
The offshore network began unraveling.
But one question remained.
Who had taken the recent photograph of Elias inside the secured NICU?
Security reviewed every camera.
No unknown person entered.
The image had been taken by someone already authorized.

The angle came from beside Emily’s recovery bed.
Hannah Cole had been standing there.
