PART 3: The Silence Before the Storm

The next morning, Robert acted normal.

He made breakfast.

He smiled.

He kissed Linda on the cheek.

But his eyes were different now—empty in a way Linda had never seen before.

Evelyn sat at the table, silent, avoiding eye contact.

Her wrist was hidden under long sleeves despite the heat.

Linda poured coffee slowly, watching both of them.

“You didn’t sleep well,” she said gently.

Robert nodded.

“Old age,” he replied.

But inside, he already knew.

It wasn’t sleep he had lost.

It was trust.

That night, he installed a second camera.

Then a third.

One for the hallway.

One for the kitchen.

One facing the guest room door.

Linda noticed nothing.

Or pretended not to.
