His development company later offered to buy the Cedar Ridge property.
The offer depended on Cassandra being legally dead.
Grayson denied knowing she was alive.
Emails showed otherwise.
Ryan sent him updates from the rehabilitation hospital.

Grayson answered:

The senator’s attorney claimed the emails were fabricated.
Keene’s recordings captured Grayson’s voice during a family meeting.
He advised Walter to establish a funeral record before challenging the land title.
A federal grand jury opened an investigation.
Grayson called the case political revenge.
He described Cassandra as confused by trauma.
She had heard that tactic before.
When evidence could not be erased, powerful people attacked the person carrying it.
Maria prepared for the final identity trial.

Walter’s attorneys argued that procedural errors did not prove the woman before the court was the same Cassandra born to the Doyle family.
They planned to exploit every inconsistency.
A missing vaccination record.
A changed signature after her wrist injury.

Cassandra refused a quiet settlement.
The family offered to recognize her identity if she surrendered the Cedar Ridge land and agreed not to sue the memorial foundation.
Maria read the offer.
Cassandra tore it in half.
“They still think my life is a bargaining chip attached to property.”
The final trial was scheduled in three weeks.
General Ward gathered surviving members of Cassandra’s unit.
Some lived across the country.
One used a wheelchair.
Another had not spoken publicly about the war in years.
