CHAPTER 4: THE MESSAGE THAT SHOULD NOT EXIST

Rosa’s hands shook as she dialed.

Not Valeria.

Not Tomás.

Emergency services.

Her voice cracked—but she spoke.

“My name is Rosa Delgado. A baby has been poisoned in the Montiel residence.”

Silence.

Then she added:

“I have proof.”

Behind her, Valeria’s expression finally changed.

Just slightly.

Not panic.

Annoyance.

“You made a mistake,” Valeria said quietly.

Rosa didn’t answer.

She pressed record on her phone.

And lifted the empty bottle into view.

For the first time, Valeria stepped forward.

Fast.

Not angry.

Controlled panic.

“Give me that,” she said.

Rosa stepped back.

“No.”

That single word changed everything.

A crash echoed.

A glass vase shattered as Valeria knocked it over reaching for the phone.

And then—

Santi’s tiny hand moved.

Just slightly.

Rosa froze.

“Wait…” she whispered.

His fingers curled.

A weak breath.

Not gone.

Not gone.

Rosa pulled him closer, shaking now.

“He’s alive,” she whispered.

May you like

And outside—

sirens finally began to rise.
