Arthur reached into his coat.
He placed a second object on the table.
A sealed envelope.
“I didn’t bring you here for confession,” he said. “I brought you here for truth with consequences.”
Daniel’s eyes narrowed.
“What is that?”
Arthur answered calmly.
“The audit trail from your company’s offshore transfers.”
A pause.
Then—
“The money you used to stabilize your collapse didn’t disappear.”
Evelyn whispered.
“Where did it go?”
Arthur looked at Daniel.
“That’s what he’s about to explain.”
Daniel’s lips parted slightly… then closed again.
For the first time, panic entered his eyes.
Real panic.
Not corporate.
