CHAPTER 3 — GRACE DOESN’T BREAK

Grace didn’t react the way they expected.
No shouting. No tears. No collapse.
She gently set Lily down, letting the child step away toward Arthur.
Then she walked toward Daniel.
Slow.
Controlled.
Every step deliberate.
“You didn’t just steal jewelry,” she said quietly. “You stole years of my life.”
Daniel’s voice cracked slightly.
“I didn’t think you’d survive it.”
Grace stopped.
For the first time—her expression changed.
Not anger.
Not sadness.
Something colder.
Understanding.
“I did survive,” she said. “That’s your mistake.”
