Marcus turned toward the sealed doors.
“Open the military archive channel. Now.”
A staff member rushed forward, dialing rapidly.
Victoria snapped.
“You are ruining my event over a homeless artifact!”
Marcus finally looked at her.
And for the first time, his voice turned dangerous.
“Do you know what you just touched?”
Victoria hesitated.
The silence answered for her.
Minutes passed.
Then the screen at the side of the hall flickered on.
A red classified seal appeared.
PROJECT BLACK DAWN — LEVEL 9 CLEARANCE REQUIRED
Gasps filled the room.
Even politicians shifted uncomfortably.
Marcus spoke slowly.
“This project was erased from every global database.”
He turned toward Maya again.
“They tested something in that operation.”
His jaw tightened.
“And they never recorded what survived.”
Victoria’s voice trembled slightly.
“What are you saying?”
Marcus answered without looking at her.
“I’m saying the child you just struck…”
May you like
A beat.
“…may be the only living proof of what they tried to hide.”
