Chapter 4: The Collapse of Control

Ethan walked out of the kitchen.

Into the living room.

The golden light suddenly felt fake.

Everything felt fake.

The laughter stopped as he entered.

Even Olivia lowered her phone.

Ethan stood in the center of the room.

Not shouting.

Not moving.

Just standing.

But the silence around him had weight.

Linda finally spoke carefully.

“Ethan… you just got home. Don’t start something unnecessary.”

Unnecessary.

He turned his head slowly toward his mother.

“You knew?”

Linda didn’t answer immediately.

That hesitation was enough.

Ethan nodded once.

Like something inside him had been confirmed.

He looked at his sisters.

“All of you.”

His voice stayed controlled.

Too controlled.

“That woman in there is carrying my child.”

No one spoke.

He continued.

“And you turned her into a servant in my house.”

Madison scoffed nervously.

“You’re exaggerating.”

That word again.

Exaggerating.

Ethan laughed once—quiet, broken.

Then he walked to the hallway.

And opened the kitchen door fully.

Emily stood there, still frozen where he left her.

Small.

Tired.

Brave in the quietest way possible.

Ethan looked at her for a long moment.

Then he said something no one expected.

“Pack your things.”

Emily’s eyes widened slightly.

But before panic could rise—

he added:

“Not because you’re leaving me.”

He turned back toward the living room.

His face had changed completely now.

Calm turned into authority.

“But because this house is.”

A pause.

May you like

Then:

“Over.”
