Chapter 3 – The Truth Falls Into Place

The hospital confirmed the baby was alive.

Bruised.

Stressed.

But alive.

Elena remained under observation while Detective Ruiz continued searching the Howard estate.

By sunrise, officers had uncovered far more than anyone expected.

Vanessa's fingerprints were found on bottles of prescription medication that had mysteriously disappeared months earlier.

Deleted text messages were recovered from her phone.

Bank transfers connected her to offshore accounts funded by Richard's business partner, Daniel Cross.

The affair was only part of the story.

The money revealed something much darker.

Daniel hadn't simply wanted Elena gone.

He wanted Richard bankrupt.

While Vanessa distracted the family with constant drama, Daniel had quietly manipulated company finances, forged contracts, and redirected millions of dollars overseas.

Vanessa wasn't just a mistress.

She had become his accomplice.

When Richard arrived at the hospital, he looked twenty years older.

Elena watched him from her bed.

"You knew," he whispered.

"I suspected."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

She smiled sadly.

"Because every time I tried... Vanessa cried."

Richard lowered his head.

He remembered every dinner.

Every accusation.

Every fake panic attack.

Every moment he chose the easier lie instead of the uncomfortable truth.

"I failed you."

"You failed yourself first."

He couldn't argue.

Later that afternoon Detective Ruiz entered Elena's room carrying a tablet.

"I think you should see the final video."

It came from the hidden camera above the grand staircase.

The recording was crystal clear.

Vanessa wasn't defending herself.

She looked over both shoulders.

She waited until everyone downstairs was distracted.

Then she deliberately shoved Elena with both hands.

Hard.

There was no struggle.

No self-defense.

No accident.

The room remained silent after the video ended.

Richard quietly covered his face.

May you like

For the first time in years...

He cried.
