Chapter 18 - THE FALSE VICTORY

The meeting took place inside Warehouse Nine.
Twelve captains arrived.
Three had secretly accepted payments from Thomas.
Four had unknowingly worked through his companies.
Five remained loyal to Gabriel.
Nobody knew which was which.
Thomas stood at the far end with Claire beside him.
She was alive.
Unhurt.
Two guards remained behind her.
Declan walked in carrying the black ring.
Gabriel entered thirty seconds later.
Thomas smiled.
“I said alone.”
Declan looked toward Claire.
“You also said you would release my wife.”
Thomas laughed.
“Everyone lies tonight.”
Norah watched from a surveillance van two buildings away.
She hated being outside.
But this part required distance.
She had access to every captain’s phone.
Every account.
Every payment.
Thomas addressed the room.
“Gabriel Moretti has lost control.”
Nobody spoke.
“His headquarters burned.”
Thomas continued.
“His security chief betrayed him.”
“His attorney died.”
“His underboss stole from him.”
Declan’s jaw tightened.
Thomas pointed.
“And now that same underboss brings me Antonio Moretti’s ring.”
Declan threw the ring across the floor.
Thomas picked it up.
The room changed.
Norah saw it through the cameras.
Symbols mattered.
Thomas placed the ring on his finger.
“Seventeen years ago, Antonio understood that this organization needed new leadership.”
Gabriel laughed.
Thomas looked at him.
“Something amusing?”
“Yes.”
“What?”
“You spent seventeen years preparing that speech.”
Gabriel stepped forward.
“And it’s still boring.”
Two captains smiled.
Thomas’s expression hardened.
Then Norah began transmitting.
Every phone in the warehouse buzzed.
Thomas ignored it.
The captains did not.
One opened his message.
Then another.
Bank records.
Payments.
Recordings.
Thomas bribing Victor.
Thomas framing Declan.
Thomas ordering the safe-house attack.
Thomas discussing Antonio’s ambush.
The room shifted again.
Thomas stared at Gabriel.
“What did you do?”
Gabriel looked toward the security camera.
“Ask my accountant.”
Norah smiled inside the van.
She transmitted the final file.
The 2009 footage.
Antonio wounded by Thomas’s gunman.
Marcus ending his suffering after Antonio’s signal.
Thomas watching.
Everyone saw it.
Thomas’s historical claim disappeared in seconds.
One corrupt captain moved toward the exit.
Gabriel’s men stopped him.
Another dropped his weapon.
Then Claire acted.
She drove her chair backward into one guard.
Declan crossed the room.
The second guard surrendered.
Thomas stood alone.
For one glorious moment, Norah believed they had won.
Then her computer flashed red.
Unauthorized transmission.
She frowned.
Someone had accessed the mirror archive remotely.
Not Thomas.
Different credentials.
Norah traced them.
Her blood ran cold.
“Gabriel.”
She activated the radio.
No response.
Signal jammed.
Inside the warehouse, Thomas smiled again.
Why?
Because he had never expected to win the room.
He only needed everyone gathered in one place.
Norah looked at the unauthorized access.
A command was running.
Not deletion.
Release.
Every corruption file.
Every payment.
Every photograph.
Every illegal transaction connected not only to Thomas—
but to Gabriel’s entire organization.
It was being uploaded publicly.
Norah tried to stop it.
Access denied.
Then she saw the credential name.
SAMUEL_K.
Her grandfather’s identity.
Impossible.
Unless someone else had inherited Samuel’s system.
Norah looked toward Margaret’s copied drive.
Her mother.
No.
Then another possibility struck her.
Samuel had trained more than one person.
Marcus.
Norah.
And someone else.
The upload reached twelve percent.
If it completed, Thomas would fall.
But Gabriel’s empire would fall with him.
Norah had less than four minutes to choose.
May you like
Protect Gabriel.
Or release seventeen years of truth.
