Chapter 2: The Wedding That Waited Without Me

Back at the venue, the guests were beginning to whisper.
Three hundred people seated in silk and sunlight, waiting for a bride who had never walked down the aisle.
My phone rang again. This time it was the wedding planner.
“Where are you? People are asking questions—”
“Tell them the truth is delayed,” I said softly.
And I hung up.
I looked back at the hotel one last time before leaving.
Inside Room 237, chaos had turned into shouting. Accusations. Denials. The kind of noise that only happens when lies collapse under their own weight.
