CHAPTER 4 — The Invisible Enemy

The next forty-eight hours uncovered a truth no one expected.

Blackridge Consortium officially didn't exist.

Every public record described it as a dissolved investment firm.

Every database showed the company had disappeared fifteen years earlier.

Yet hidden inside Voss Global's oldest acquisitions...

Its fingerprints were everywhere.

Dozens of shell companies.

Anonymous trusts.

Offshore accounts.

Someone had quietly manipulated billion-dollar transactions for decades.

Elena gathered her executive team.

"No one leaves this room."

The cybersecurity director connected his laptop to the conference screen.

"What you're about to see has never appeared on any audit."

A complex web of companies filled the display.

Every line eventually led to the same destination.

Blackridge.

The room fell silent.

One director whispered,

"How long has this been happening?"

"Long before any of us worked here."

Another executive looked toward Elena.

"Does Damian know?"

"I don't know."

"But we're about to find out."

Meanwhile...

Damian was packing the last of his belongings from his apartment when his phone rang.

Unknown number.

He almost ignored it.

"Mr. Carter."

The voice was calm.

Professional.

"We've been watching you."

"Who is this?"

"The people who built your career."

Damian froze.

"You were never chosen because you were brilliant."

"You were chosen because you were useful."

His breathing slowed.

"What do you want?"

"Elena Voss."

The call ended.

Minutes later...

An encrypted email appeared.

Inside were hundreds of confidential documents.

Every illegal decision Damian believed he had made alone...

Had actually been approved by people he had never met.

He hadn't been the architect.

He had been the puppet.

For the first time...

May you like

Damian realized Elena wasn't his enemy.

They had both been manipulated.
