The final settlement took another three months.
Rebecca kept her trust assets.
Daniel kept his remaining personal shares.
He surrendered part of his marital investment portfolio to offset certain disputed expenditures.
The company’s claims were resolved separately.
Daniel agreed to repay a significant portion over time.
No one went to prison.
The evidence supported serious misconduct.
But the final corporate and civil resolutions focused on repayment, governance restrictions, tax corrections, and financial penalties.
Daniel hated that there was no dramatic villain to blame.
No conspiracy against him.
Just records.
Signatures.
Invoices.
Emails.
Choices.
The divorce decree arrived on a rainy Tuesday.
Rebecca sat in her apartment with tea.
Twenty-three years became a stack of stamped pages.
She expected grief.
It came.
Then relief.
Then grief again.
Healing did not respect courtroom schedules.

“It’s final?”

She said.
“Probably later.”

“That sounds healthy.”
Rebecca smiled.
