Chapter 5: The Secret He Buried

Three days after the attack, Elena woke up in a private hospital room overlooking the city.

The doctors told her she was lucky.

The baby was safe.

No serious injuries.

A few bruises.

A few broken pieces inside her that no medical machine could detect.

But Elena knew one thing.

She was alive.

And so was her child.

That was enough.

Her attorney, Victoria Hayes, arrived that morning carrying a thick black folder.

“You need to prepare yourself,” Victoria said.

Elena looked up from the window.

“What did you find?”

Victoria placed the folder on the table.

“Daniel wasn’t just planning to remove you from the company.”

Elena opened it.

Inside were financial records.

Private emails.

Hidden accounts.

And photographs.

Her expression slowly changed.

“What is this?”

Victoria took a breath.

“Daniel has been working with someone else for almost a year.”

Elena turned the page.

A familiar face appeared.

Her heart stopped.

“Rebecca?”

Rebecca Lawson.

Daniel’s former assistant.

The woman who had always been “just a friend.”

The woman who attended family dinners.

The woman who comforted Elena whenever Daniel was late.

Elena stared at the picture.

Rebecca and Daniel.

Holding hands.

Kissing.

A secret relationship hidden behind polite smiles.

“How long?” Elena whispered.

“Almost eighteen months.”

Elena closed her eyes.

The betrayal felt heavier than the fall.

Because Margaret had been cruel.

But Rebecca had pretended to care.

Victoria continued.

“There’s more.”

She handed Elena another document.

“This was the original plan.”

Elena read the first line.

Transfer control of Whitmore Holdings after Elena’s death.

Her hands trembled.

They didn’t just want her gone.

They wanted everything.

Her company.

Her wealth.

Her child’s inheritance.

Her entire identity.

“They planned my murder,” Elena whispered.

Victoria nodded.

“Yes.”

A long silence filled the room.

Then Elena placed the papers down.

The woman who had cried three days earlier was gone.

In her place was someone calmer.

Sharper.

Stronger.

“Good,” Elena said.

Victoria looked surprised.

“Good?”

Elena looked out the window.

“They showed me exactly who they are.”

She touched her stomach gently.

“And now I know exactly what I need to protect.”

Victoria studied her carefully.

“What are you going to do?”

Elena turned back.

“I’m going to let them believe they won.”

A small smile appeared on her face.

“Then I’m going to take everything back.”

That evening, Daniel sat alone in his mansion office.

He believed the danger had passed.

He believed Elena was broken.

He believed the company would soon belong to him.

Then his phone rang.

It was Rebecca.

“Is she gone?” Rebecca asked.

Daniel smiled.

“She will be.”

But neither of them noticed the small light blinking on the security camera above them.

Because Elena had never stopped watching.

And now…

May you like

She had something they never expected.

A confession.
