Chapter 3: The Reckoning

Two weeks later, the courtroom was packed. The media had latched onto the scandal of the decade: the resurrected billionaire and his ruthless step-sister.
Victoria sat at the defense table, stripped of her designer gowns and gold stilettos. She wore a drab, standard-issue jumpsuit, looking small and terrified. Her lawyers had tried everything—claiming temporary insanity, pleading for a settlement—but Julian had buried them under an avalanche of undeniable evidence.
The security footage had been played for the judge. The sight of Victoria deliberately driving her heel into a heavily pregnant Elara’s hand had elicited gasps of horror from the gallery.
Julian took the stand, his posture impeccable, his voice cold and authoritative. He methodically laid out the financial crimes: the embezzlement, the forged documents, the bribery. But it was his final statement that sealed her fate.
"Money can be recovered," Julian told the judge, his eyes locked on Victoria. "But the terror inflicted upon my wife and my unborn child is a debt that cannot be paid with cash. I am not asking for restitution. I am asking for justice."

The verdict was swift. Victoria was sentenced to twenty years in a federal penitentiary without the possibility of early parole, alongside heavy sentences for the accomplices who had aided in the cover-up. The empire she thought she had stolen was ripped from her hands forever.
As the bailiffs led her away in handcuffs, she looked back at Julian one last time. There was no smirk left. Only the devastating realization that she had destroyed her own life.
