Chapter 13 - DEAN SAID LAURA MADE IT ALL UP
Dean gave one interview to a local television reporter.
Against his lawyer’s advice.
He sat in front of a neutral gray wall.
No anger.
No shouting.
He described himself as a father fighting for his child.
“My wife has turned an accident into a weapon.”
He said.
“She is using our daughter to punish me.”
Then he claimed Laura had planted the prepaid phone in Ava’s boot.
That was his worst mistake.
Digital forensics established the phone had been active for eleven months.
Messages between Dean and Victor.
Photographs Dean had taken himself.
Location data placing the device at Dean’s work sites.
And fingerprints consistent with Dean on the case.
More importantly, the audio recording began before Ava took the phone.
Laura could not have created it.
The television station updated its report that evening.
The headline changed.
