Chapter 12 - DEAN'S LAST FINANCIAL MOVE

Dean tried to freeze the trust.
His attorney filed a petition claiming Laura had mismanaged the funds by allowing investigators access to confidential financial records.
It failed.
Then the forensic accountant found another document.
A proposed amendment to Ava’s trust administration.
Laura’s signature appeared at the bottom.
Not genuine.
The amendment would have added Dean as co-trustee.
It was dated five months earlier.
The notary stamp belonged to a small office in Worcester.
The notary denied ever seeing Laura.
Surveillance from the office showed Dean entering alone.
The fraud investigation widened.
For the first time, Dean’s construction employer suspended him.
Then more money surfaced.
$82,000 transferred to an account Laura had never seen.
Dean used it to pay North Gate.
His divorce attorney.
And a deposit on the Marblehead property.
He had tried to reserve a million-dollar home with his daughter’s inheritance before winning custody.
The seller returned the deposit once investigators contacted them.
Laura stared at the bank statement.

Dean had told her for years that she was careless with money because she occasionally forgot to submit expense receipts.
Meanwhile, he was spending a six-year-old’s trust to finance a plan against her mother.
