Chapter 8 - THE OPERATING ROOM

Dr. Voss attempted to leave through the surgical loading dock.

Federal agents stopped him before he reached the elevator.

Inside his office, investigators found signed consent forms bearing Khloe’s forged signature.

The operation had been scheduled for 3:00 a.m.

The plan was to deliver the baby prematurely, declare Khloe medically unstable and transfer the child into Victoria’s guardianship.

The infant would remain inside a Thorne-controlled hospital.

Khloe would have no unrestricted access.

Marcus read every page.

His face became harder with each line.

“They planned to take our child.”

Nathaniel corrected him.

“They planned to take Khloe’s child.”

Marcus looked at him.

“You do not get to use the word our while she is deciding whether she can trust you.”

The warning was deserved.

Khloe signed documents transferring temporary medical authority to Nathaniel.

Marcus received no decision-making power unless she became unconscious and Nathaniel was unavailable.

He accepted the condition.

Victoria did not.

She appeared outside the hospital with a court order and six private security officers.

News cameras filled the entrance.

She wore gray and spoke calmly about protecting her grandchild from “an escalating domestic crisis.”

Edited photographs appeared online.

One showed Khloe raising her hand during an argument with Isabella.

Another showed Marcus restraining Isabella after the syringe fell.

The images were framed as evidence that Marcus and Khloe had attacked her together.

Public opinion divided within hours.

Some believed the full video.

Others claimed it was staged by the Thorne family to destroy the Rossis.

Lorenzo Rossi appeared on television and described Isabella as a victim of emotional manipulation.

He claimed Marcus had promised marriage, used her politically and discarded her.

Marcus refused to issue a statement.

Khloe disagreed.

“Silence is what allowed this.”

He looked at her.

“What do you want to say?”

“The truth.”

Khloe recorded a short statement from her hospital room.

She did not mention the inheritance.

She did not attack Isabella’s appearance or reputation.

She described the shove, the kick and the medication tampering.

Then she addressed the edited photographs.

“I will not apologize for surviving an attack someone else planned.”

The statement spread faster than Lorenzo’s interview.

Women shared stories of being called unstable after reporting abuse.

Doctors demanded an independent investigation into the Thorne maternity network.

Employees began contacting federal authorities.

One nurse revealed that Dr. Voss had ordered staff to alter Khloe’s blood results.

Another admitted Victoria offered her fifty thousand dollars to report Khloe as suicidal.

The conspiracy began unraveling.

Then Owen Black appeared on live television.

The suspended chief executive claimed Marcus had stolen from Thorne International.

He presented financial records showing forty million dollars transferred into an account controlled by Khloe.

Khloe had never seen the account.

Marcus recognized the bank.

It was located in Switzerland.

The transfer had been authorized using his digital signature.

The corporate coup was no longer only about an heir.

Someone intended to send Marcus and Khloe to prison.
