Chapter 7 - THE MARRIAGE CONTRACT

Isabella was arrested before sunrise.
Lorenzo’s attorneys secured an emergency hearing and attempted to have her transferred to a private psychiatric facility.
Nathaniel blocked the transfer by documenting her as a criminal suspect who remained medically stable.
Elaine sent copies of the recording to federal investigators, two national news networks and a law firm outside Illinois.
The video could no longer disappear.
Khloe waited until her room was secured before confronting Marcus.
“Did you know about the inheritance clause?”
“Yes.”
The honesty arrived too late.
“When?”
“Before we married.”
“How long before?”
“Six weeks.”
Khloe looked toward the fetal monitor.
Marcus had proposed after only nine months together.
At the time, she believed his urgency came from love.
Now every memory felt contaminated.
“Did you marry me because you thought I would give you an heir?”
“No.”
“But you knew a child would protect your position.”
“Yes.”
“Did you tell me?”
“No.”
Marcus sat beside the window.
“My grandfather changed the trust because he did not believe I respected family.”
“Perhaps he was right.”
The words struck him.
He accepted them.
Marcus explained that he had planned to challenge the clause.
Then Khloe became pregnant sooner than expected.
By then, he told himself the legal details no longer mattered.
He loved her.
The child was wanted.
The trust was irrelevant.
But Khloe understood the deeper betrayal.
Marcus had allowed her to enter a marriage without knowing how her body and future children affected a billion-dollar empire.
He took away her ability to choose with full knowledge.
“Isabella was right about one thing,” Khloe said.
“You chose the heir.”
“No.”
“You chose silence because silence benefited you.”
Marcus’s voice broke.
“I chose you.”
“You chose me without trusting me with the truth.”
Nathaniel entered carrying a legal document.
Victoria had filed for emergency guardianship over the unborn child.
Khloe stared at him.
“Can she do that?”
“She can try.”
Victoria claimed Khloe was emotionally unstable and medically reckless.
The petition referenced the hospital attack as proof that Khloe placed the baby in danger by provoking Isabella.
The cruelty was breathtaking.
Victoria had helped create the danger.
Now she intended to use it against the victim.
Marcus read the filing.
“She wants control if the baby is born while I am suspended.”
Nathaniel nodded.
“The petition also requests a court-appointed medical guardian.”
“Who?”
“Dr. Julian Voss.”
Marcus recognized the name.
Voss directed the Thorne private maternity program.
He had approved Khloe’s false medication orders.
The hospital attack had failed.
The guardianship case would give Victoria legal access to Khloe and the child.
Elaine entered with another discovery.
The missing twelve minutes from the hospital server had been deleted using Dr. Voss’s credentials.
Security located him in a private surgical wing.
He was preparing an operating room.
The patient listed on the schedule was Khloe Thorne.

The procedure was an emergency cesarean section.
Khloe had never consented.
