CHAPTER 3 — The Man Who Thought He Was King

Lucas didn’t sleep.
He sat in his empty office while employees packed their things in silence.
No one looked at him.
Not anymore.
Sophie had left before dawn.
Richard hadn’t spoken since the whiskey shattered.
And Helen… had stopped pretending to understand the world she once ruled socially.
Lucas finally understood something terrifying:
Power wasn’t lost in one moment.
It was revealed as never having been yours.
The elevator opened behind him.
Security stepped aside.
Isabella entered.
Same posture.
Same calm presence.
But everything around her felt heavier now.
Lucas stood slowly.
“Tell me this is a negotiation,” he said.
Isabella looked at him for a long moment.
Then answered:
“You don’t have anything left to negotiate.”
He shook his head.
“I built this.”
A pause.
Then she replied:
“No.”
She stepped closer.
“You signed it into existence. I just decided when it stops breathing.”
His voice cracked.
“Why now?”
For the first time, something like honesty crossed her face.
“Because now,” she said, “you finally showed me who you are without needing anything from me.”
Silence.
Lucas swallowed hard.
“You never loved me.”
Isabella didn’t hesitate.
May you like
“No.”
The truth landed cleaner than any lie ever could.
