CHAPTER 4 — THE LOADING DOCK CONFESSION

Security arrived.
But no one moved.
Because truth had already taken the room hostage.
I handed Violet to a nurse only long enough to make sure she was safe.
Then I walked.
Barefoot again.
Straight past everyone.
Quincy followed me without hesitation.
We reached the loading dock.
The same place where my daughter had almost disappeared forever.
Garrett came too.
So did Naomi.
Like they couldn’t stop themselves from watching their own collapse.
I turned.
“You told me she was medical waste.”
My voice wasn’t loud.
It didn’t need to be.
A truck engine idled behind us like a countdown.
Garrett finally spoke.
“She was already gone,” he said weakly. “It was… mercy.”
I laughed once.
Sharp. Broken.
“Mercy is what you call it when you’re afraid of consequences.”
Naomi stepped forward.
“She was defective.”
That word again.
Defective.
Like my child was a broken object instead of a life.
Quincy flinched.
May you like
And then said something that changed everything.
“I have the video.”
