CHAPTER 3 – THE TRUTH HIDDEN IN THE MARRIAGE CONTRACT

Adrian tore open the envelope with shaking hands.
Inside was a thick stack of legal documents bearing the seal of Lawson Global Holdings.
He flipped through the pages in disbelief.
"No... no, this can't be right."
The lead attorney remained calm.
"It is."
Vanessa leaned over his shoulder.
"What does it say?"
Adrian ignored her.
His eyes stopped on one sentence highlighted in red.
All assets transferred under the Marriage Trust Agreement remain the exclusive property of the Lawson Family unless revoked by Claire Lawson.
His face turned pale.
"I never saw this."
"You weren't supposed to," the attorney replied. "You declined independent legal review and signed every page without reading them."
Memories flooded back.
Ten years earlier...
Richard Lawson had offered Adrian everything he claimed he needed to build his business.
Investment capital.
Luxury properties.
Private financing.
International contacts.
Adrian had believed it was a generous wedding gift.
It wasn't.
It had been a test.
And tonight...
He had failed.
Across the city...
Claire arrived at the Lawson Estate.
Unlike Adrian's mansion, this estate wasn't built to impress strangers.
It was built to endure generations.
The gates opened before the limousine even slowed.
Every employee lined the entrance in respectful silence.
No applause.
No spectacle.
Only loyalty.
Richard Lawson waited at the top of the staircase.
The moment Claire stepped inside, he crossed the marble floor himself.
He wrapped his daughter in a quiet embrace.
"I'm sorry it took you this long to come home."
Claire buried her face against his shoulder.
"I thought love was worth more than money."
Richard gently kissed her forehead.
"It is."
"But real love never asks you to give away your dignity."
Claire closed her eyes.

For the first time in years...
She felt safe.
