CHAPTER 4 â The Family Collapse

Emmaâs father stepped into the hospital corridor.
Not angry.
Not loud.
Just quiet.
Behind him stood two attorneys and a private investigator.
Brian stiffened immediately.
Carol stood up. âWho let you in here?â
The father didnât look at her.
He looked at Brian.
Then he said softly:
âHow long have you been recording my daughterâs life without telling her?â
Brian froze.
The investigator held up a tablet.
Screens filled with messages. Bank transfers. Hidden cameras in the house. Deleted recordings restored.
Emma, inside the room, watched from the doorway as her world split open.
Carolâs voice cracked for the first time.
âThis is⌠illegalâŚâ
The father nodded.
âSo is abandoning a woman in labor.â
A lawyer stepped forward.
âOne more thing,â he said.
He tapped the screen.
A second video started.
This one wasnât from the highway.
May you like
It was from inside their home.
And it showed exactly why Brian never wanted Emma to reach a hospital alive.
