CHAPTER 4 — The Family Collapse

Emma’s father stepped into the hospital corridor.
Not angry.
Not loud.
Just quiet.
Behind him stood two attorneys and a private investigator.
Brian stiffened immediately.
Carol stood up. “Who let you in here?”
The father didn’t look at her.
He looked at Brian.
Then he said softly:
“How long have you been recording my daughter’s life without telling her?”
Brian froze.
The investigator held up a tablet.
Screens filled with messages. Bank transfers. Hidden cameras in the house. Deleted recordings restored.
Emma, inside the room, watched from the doorway as her world split open.
Carol’s voice cracked for the first time.
“This is… illegal…”
The father nodded.
“So is abandoning a woman in labor.”
A lawyer stepped forward.
“One more thing,” he said.
He tapped the screen.
A second video started.
This one wasn’t from the highway.
May you like
It was from inside their home.
And it showed exactly why Brian never wanted Emma to reach a hospital alive.
