CHAPTER 4 — THE NIGHT EVERYTHING EXPOSED ITSELF

That night, I set up the living room camera.

Not hidden.

Not illegal.

Just open.

Visible.

Honest.

I told everyone I was upgrading security.

No one questioned it.

Except Richard.

He stared at it longer than anyone else.

Just for a second.

But long enough.

Chloe was sent to bed early.

Meredith was in the kitchen.

And Richard stayed behind after dinner.

“Everything alright, Dad?” I asked casually.

He smiled.

A controlled smile.

“Yes, of course.”

But his eyes didn’t match it.

That night, I waited.

And I didn’t have to wait long.

At 2:17 a.m., the motion alert triggered.

I opened the feed.

Chloe’s room.

Dark.

Still.

Then—

A shadow in the hallway.

Slow movement.

Careful steps.

Richard.

My breath didn’t change.

But something inside me went completely cold.

I watched him stop at her door.

Pause.

Then open it.

And I didn’t move.

Not yet.

Because now I had what I needed.

May you like

Not suspicion.

Proof.
