Chapter 4: A New Dawn (Ending)

Power doesn’t collapse loudly.
It simply stops working.
Julian’s breath caught as reality closed in around him. The belt slipped from his hand and hit the marble floor with a hollow sound that felt too small for what it meant.
His voice failed him.
His charm disappeared.
Even his anger couldn’t find a place to land.
When the handcuffs clicked shut around his wrists, the sound was final—clean, mechanical, absolute. No negotiations left. No versions of the story that mattered anymore.
He was escorted out of the penthouse he once ruled.
Not as a man of influence.
But as evidence.
Silence returned slowly after the doors closed.
Clara remained on the sofa, trembling, her hand still on her belly. Arthur approached carefully, as if sudden movement might shatter what was left of her.
He removed his coat and placed it around her shoulders.
For a moment, she didn’t speak.
Then she exhaled.
Not fear.
Not pain.
Just exhaustion leaving a body that had carried too much for too long.
Her eyes drifted to the broken stillness of the room—the antique clock, the untouched skyline, the place that had once been a cage disguised as luxury.
A faint movement stopped her.
Her hand lowered to her belly.
A kick.
Small. Real. Alive.
Her lips parted, and for the first time in what felt like years, she didn’t flinch.
Outside the glass walls, morning light broke across New York City, washing the skyline in gold.

The cage was still there.
But the door was no longer locked.
