Chapter 3: The Fall of the House of Cards

The penthouse doors didn’t open.

They shattered.

The sound of impact rolled through the space like thunder trapped in glass walls. Julian turned sharply, belt still in hand, expecting security, expecting control to restore itself.

Instead, he saw the end of it.

Arthur Sterling stepped inside first.

Slow. Steady. Unshakable.

Behind him, four NYPD officers moved with practiced precision, their hands already near their weapons, eyes scanning the room like it had already been declared a crime scene.

Julian’s expression faltered for the first time.

“Arthur…” he began, forcing a smile that didn’t fit his face. “This is a misunderstanding. A private matter. Clara slipped—she—”

Arthur raised a hand.

Not to interrupt.

To stop him from existing in that moment.

Then Arthur lifted the tablet.

On the screen: Julian. Clear. Undeniable. The belt raised. Clara recoiling.

No sound needed. None was forgiven.

“It’s over,” Arthur said.

Quiet.

Final.

Julian blinked rapidly, as if the image might dissolve if he refused to accept it. His grip on the belt loosened for the first time in years.

That was when the officers moved.
