Chapter 3: The Man She Married Was a Lie

Outside the delivery room, Mark was being questioned by hospital staff.
Inside, Adrian stayed beside Emily, guiding every breath like he had done it before.
Emilyâs voice trembled.
âIf you know me⊠why didnât you come sooner?â
A flicker of pain crossed his face.
âI did.â
He reached into his coat and pulled out a worn photograph.
A younger version of him⊠holding a newborn baby.
Emily stared at it.
Her entire body went cold.
âThat baby⊠looks like meâŠâ
Adrian nodded slowly.
âShe is you.â
The room tilted.
Emily whispered, âThen who am I?â
Adrianâs voice dropped.
âThe daughter of the man your husband worked for⊠before he erased your past.â
A beat.
Then the truth hit harder.
âMark didnât marry you by accident, Emily.â
âHe was assigned to find you.â
The heart monitor screamed faster.
Emily gasped, clutching her stomach.
âWhy?â
Adrian stepped closer.
May you like
âBecause your inheritance wasnât just money.â
âIt was control of an entire medical empire⊠and someone didnât want you alive to claim it.â
