Chapter 3: The Man She Married Was a Lie
Outside the delivery room, Mark was being questioned by hospital staff.
Inside, Adrian stayed beside Emily, guiding every breath like he had done it before.
Emily’s voice trembled.
“If you know me… why didn’t you come sooner?”
A flicker of pain crossed his face.
“I did.”
He reached into his coat and pulled out a worn photograph.
A younger version of him… holding a newborn baby.
Emily stared at it.
Her entire body went cold.
“That baby… looks like me…”
Adrian nodded slowly.
“She is you.”
The room tilted.
Emily whispered, “Then who am I?”
Adrian’s voice dropped.
“The daughter of the man your husband worked for… before he erased your past.”
A beat.
Then the truth hit harder.
“Mark didn’t marry you by accident, Emily.”
“He was assigned to find you.”
The heart monitor screamed faster.
Emily gasped, clutching her stomach.
