Chapter 1: The Man Who Shouldn’t Be There

The delivery room was still vibrating with chaos.

Emily lay trembling on the hospital bed, her breathing shallow, her face drenched in sweat and fear. The beeping monitor echoed like a countdown to something irreversible.

Mark stood frozen against the wall, just moments after being thrown back.

And between them… Dr. Adrian Cole.

The older man didn’t even look at Mark.

His eyes stayed locked on Emily—like the entire world had narrowed into her existence alone.

“Get… him out,” Emily whispered weakly.

But Adrian didn’t move.

Instead, something strange happened.

His hand tightened slightly around her wrist, checking her pulse like he already knew what he would find.

Then softly—

“Her blood pressure is dropping. She’s been stressed too long.”

A nurse blinked. “Doctor… you know her?”

That question hung in the air too long.

Adrian finally looked up.

And for the first time, his voice wasn’t professional.

It was personal.

“Yes.”

Mark’s expression shifted. “What the hell does that mean?”

Adrian stood slowly.

And what he said next broke the entire room open.

“I’m the man who promised I would never let this happen to her again.”

Silence.

Even the machines seemed quieter.

Emily’s eyes widened.

Not in fear—

but in recognition she didn’t understand yet.
