CHAPTER 3 — The Truth Beneath the Silence

Hospital alarms never came.
Because Sophie wasn’t supposed to survive the night before the wedding.
That was the truth buried in the files.
Daniel sank onto the edge of the bed, staring at her like she was someone he had never really seen before.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” he whispered.
Sophie’s lips moved faintly.
No sound came at first.
Then, barely:
“I tried…”
Her voice cracked like fragile glass.
Carol turned away, wiping tears she didn’t realize had started falling.
The envelope slipped from Daniel’s hand again.
A third page.
A photo.
Sophie standing outside a clinic… alone.
And beside it, a text message printed from her phone:
“If you choose this wedding, you accept the risk. We cannot guarantee survival.”
Daniel stood up suddenly.
“No… no, this is insane. Why would she go through with it?”
A faint voice answered from the bed.
Because she loved him.
That was it.
Simple.
Destroying.
Human.
And then Sophie’s eyes slowly closed again.
Her breathing weakened.
May you like
Carol screamed for an ambulance this time—not authority, not control.
Just fear.
