Chapter 18 - Under Oath

The final hearing lasted two days.
Vivian testified first.
She denied planning to remove me from the family.
She said she had genuinely believed the twins might not be Graham’s.
Marcus asked why she created a custody-linked trust before the fake messages existed.
She called it coincidence.
He asked about the prepaid phone.
She denied buying it.
He showed the receipt.
She blamed Tessa.
He showed scanner metadata linked to Vivian’s user account.
She blamed household staff.
He showed the fake investigator invoice stored on her personal laptop.
She blamed malware.
Finally Marcus asked one simple question.
“Mrs. Harrington, is there any evidence in this case you accept responsibility for?”
Her attorney objected.
The judge allowed Vivian to answer if she wished.
She did not.
Then Graham took the stand.
His own attorney asked about the night in the snow.
Graham looked at me.
“I pushed the suitcase into Elena.”
The courtroom went silent.
“I told her to leave.”
His voice shook.
“I heard my mother insult my sons.”
He swallowed.
“I did nothing.”
His attorney asked whether he believed the children were his at the time.
Graham stared at his hands.
“I told myself I didn’t know.”
He looked up.
“But the truth is I was angry and afraid of confronting my mother.”
Vivian whispered, “Graham.”
The judge warned her.
Graham continued.
“I had no real evidence Elena cheated.”
My eyes burned.
“I helped file a petition that described Elena leaving voluntarily even though I knew we had forced her out.”
His attorney asked why he was admitting that.
“Because it’s true.”
Marcus did not smile.
Neither did I.
This was not victory.
It was accountability.
Then Graham’s attorney asked whether he wanted custody.
“Yes.”
My chest tightened.
Graham continued.
“But not by taking the boys from their mother.”
He looked at Judge Rowan.
“I want the chance to become a father they are safe with.”
He paused.
“If that means supervision until this court believes I’ve earned more, then that is what I deserve.”
Vivian stared at him as though he had betrayed her.
Maybe to her, he had.
For the first time, Graham was choosing consequences over obedience.
Then Marcus played the security footage one final time.
The suitcase.
The snow.
My request for coats.
Vivian’s laughter.
The custody threat.
The blinking red camera captured more than their cruelty.
It captured the instant my marriage ended.
Judge Rowan watched every second.
Then she removed her glasses.
May you like
“I have heard enough.”
