CHAPTER 2 — THE LIES START TO CRACK

The groom’s expression changed for the first time.
Not fear.
Not shock.
Something colder.
Recognition.
“That photo means nothing,” Caleb said quickly, stepping forward. “People can fabricate—”
“Don’t lie.”
The voice came from the back of the hall.
A woman had entered.
Wet hair. Pale face. Shaking hands.
And when she stepped into the light, half the guests recognized her immediately.
A ghost that wasn’t supposed to exist.
The bride’s fingers tightened around her bouquet.
“That’s… impossible,” she whispered.
The boy ran.
“Mom!”
He crashed into the woman’s arms, burying his face into her dress. The entire hall erupted in whispers.
Caleb’s jaw clenched.
“You shouldn’t be here,” he said quietly.
The woman looked up.
“I was never meant to leave,” she replied.
Gasps spread through the crowd like wildfire.
The groom’s perfect image—the wealthy heir, the flawless fiancé, the man everyone admired—began to fracture in real time.
The woman raised her hand.
And placed a small recording device on a nearby table.
“I stayed silent for three years,” she said. “But he didn’t stop after I disappeared.”
The device clicked on.
A voice filled the hall.
Caleb’s voice.
Cold. Controlled. Threatening.
And every word destroyed the story he had spent years building.
The bride stepped back as if the floor had vanished beneath her.
“You told me she was unstable…” she whispered.

Caleb didn’t answer.
Because now, there was nothing left to say.
