Chapter 15 - THE DOCTOR’S CONFESSION
Malcolm Voss agreed to testify before a federal grand jury.
His confession revealed that Marcus approached him eight years earlier.
At the time, Malcolm had a gambling problem.
Marcus offered to erase his debts in exchange for access to Nathan’s foundation accounts.
The first theft was small.
Twenty thousand dollars moved through a false medical supplier.
When no one noticed, the amounts increased.
Malcolm altered audit reports.
Marcus created clinics.
Judge Kane protected them from investigation.
Then Sarah discovered an invoice carrying the name of a clinic that did not exist.
She confronted Marcus.
He beat her and told Malcolm to create a psychiatric history that would destroy her credibility.
Malcolm signed every false record.
He prescribed medications Sarah never requested.
He certified that she suffered from delusions.
He helped Marcus convince social workers, police officers, and attorneys that Sarah was dangerous.
“Did you ever examine her?” the prosecutor asked.
“Once.”
“Was she mentally ill?”
Malcolm looked toward Sarah.
“No.”
“What was her condition?”
“She was frightened.”
“Of whom?”
“Marcus.”
Malcolm admitted intercepting calls to Nathan’s hospital office.
He deleted Sarah’s voicemails.
He advised Nathan not to contact her.
He wrote several of the forged letters himself.
Nathan sat in the courtroom and listened to another man recite the words he should have questioned.
Sarah wants no relationship with you.
Lily is not your concern.
Stop sending gifts.
You are making her condition worse.
Malcolm had used Nathan’s pride like a signature.
The prosecutor displayed the bracelet.
“Why was this object important?”
Malcolm’s expression changed.
“Sarah wore it during her only legitimate hospital visit.”
“What happened?”
“She arrived with a fractured wrist.”
“Did she identify the attacker?”
“Yes.”
“She named Marcus.”
“What did you do?”
“I changed the report.”
The original intake number was tied to the engraving date.

The bracelet proved Sarah had sought help seven years earlier.
The official record claimed she injured herself during a mental-health crisis.
The unaltered emergency room footage showed her telling a nurse that Marcus pushed her down a staircase.
The bracelet had been returned to her when Malcolm believed the video was destroyed.
He never knew a backup existed.
That small piece of silver connected the forged medical history, the stolen reports, and Malcolm’s conspiracy.
It destroyed every lie at once.
When testimony ended, Malcolm looked at Nathan.
