Chapter 3: The Dance That Changed Everything
Security moved in immediately.
But Clara suddenly stood.
Her legs shook violently—but she was standing.
The wheelchair tipped backward behind her.
Gasps filled the ballroom.
The boy stepped back, terrified.
“I didn’t mean for this,” he said. “I don’t know what I am.”
The man in the dark suit stepped forward, revealing an official badge.
“He belongs to a classified medical program,” he announced. “He is not safe to remain free.”
Clara shook her head.
“No,” she said firmly.
Everyone froze again.
The boy looked at her in disbelief.
“You shouldn’t be standing,” he whispered.
She smiled through tears.
“You said you’d make me walk.”
Her father stepped forward, blocking the agents.
“Not at the cost of a child’s life.”
The agents hesitated.
Then the boy collapsed to his knees, clutching his head.
Electric-like pulses flickered under his skin.
“I can’t control it,” he gasped.
Clara knelt beside him and held his hand again.
“Then don’t control it,” she said softly. “Just stay with me.”
The pulse spread through the marble floor.
Lights flickered.
The entire ballroom shook.
And then—
Silence.
The boy opened his eyes.
Clara was standing completely on her own.
No wheelchair.
No support.
Just balance.
Just life.
The agents stepped back in shock.
Because the data was wrong.
He wasn’t a failed experiment.
And she wasn’t a broken patient.
They were something else entirely.
Something the world was never supposed to see.
Clara looked at him and smiled.
“Dance with me?”
The boy hesitated.
Then took her hand.
And in the middle of a collapsing world of secrets and lies, they danced—slowly, shakily, but freely.
