Chapter 1: The Boy Who Walked Into the Impossible
The beggar boy walked into the ballroom like he had come for one person only.
Chandeliers sparkled above silk dresses and polished shoes, but none of it mattered to him. His bare feet left faint marks on the marble floor, ignored by everyone except for the disgusted glances that followed him.
Whispers spread instantly.
“Who let him in?”
“Is he lost?”
“Security should remove him.”
But the boy didn’t stop.
His eyes stayed locked on a girl sitting in a wheelchair near the grand piano. She wore a pale pink dress, her hands folded neatly in her lap, as if she had already accepted the world as it was.
Beside her stood her father, a tall man in a deep green velvet tuxedo. The moment he noticed the boy approaching, he stepped forward and blocked him completely.
“Don’t touch her.”
The boy froze.
He was thin, soaked from the rain, and shaking—but his eyes were steady.
“I’m not here to hurt her,” he said softly.
The father didn’t move.
Around them, the ballroom fell silent, sensing something strange beneath the moment.
The girl leaned slightly to see past her father’s arm.
And that’s when the boy raised his trembling hand.
“Let me dance with your daughter…”
A pause.
“…and I’ll make her walk again.”
Gasps rippled through the room.
The father’s face hardened instantly. “Get him out—”
But before security could move, the girl suddenly spoke.
“Wait.”
Her voice was small—but certain.
All eyes turned to her.
She slowly reached toward the boy.
And the boy, surprised, gently took her hand.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then her fingers trembled.
Her breath hitched.
And her other hand slowly lifted from the wheelchair arm.
The entire ballroom froze.
