Chapter Two – The Man Everyone Underestimated

Edward Russo entered the Harrison mansion without raising his voice.

He didn't have to.

Presence accomplished what anger never could.

Every conversation stopped.

Even the children sensed something had changed.

My mother-in-law stepped forward first.

"I'm sorry, this is a private family gathering."

Papa offered a polite smile.

"So I've heard."

"And you are?"

He removed his leather gloves slowly.

"My name is Edward Russo."

The room froze.

A few of the older guests exchanged uneasy glances.

One elderly uncle nearly dropped his wine glass.

The name meant nothing to the younger relatives.

But some remembered stories from decades ago.

Stories about a businessman who had quietly built an international logistics empire after leaving behind a dangerous past.

Brian laughed nervously.

"So what? Are you some lawyer?"

"In a manner of speaking."

Aunt Isabella handed Papa a leather folder.

He placed it gently on the dining table.

"I understand there has been an unfortunate incident involving my daughter and granddaughter."

Mother-in-law folded her arms.

"Your daughter attacked us."

Papa nodded once.

"Interesting."

Another folder appeared.

"Because every security camera outside this property tells a different story."

Brian's smile vanished.

"What cameras?"

"The ones covering your driveway."

Another document.

"The neighboring properties."

Another.

"The town traffic system."

Another.

"The convenience store your guests visited before arriving."

Aunt Isabella spoke calmly.

"We've already secured copies."

Nobody moved.

Nobody breathed.

Then Papa looked toward the staircase.

"Emily."

His voice softened.

"You don't have to come down."

"I already know enough."

For the first time that evening...

I realized the Harrisons were afraid.

Not because someone stronger had arrived.

But because someone had arrived carrying the truth.
