Chapter 2: The Camera in the Chandelier

The paramedics rushed to Lena first.

Vanessa tried to follow, but an officer blocked her.

“This is ridiculous,” Vanessa snapped. “I’m the victim.”

Detective Ruiz slowly pointed upward.

“To that chandelier?”

Vanessa’s eyes flicked toward the ceiling.

The crystal chandelier hung above the staircase like a frozen crown.

Beautiful.

Expensive.

Watching everything.

Ruiz continued, “Three weeks ago, Mrs. Whitmore came to my office. She told me someone in this house was trying to make her look unstable.”

Vanessa swallowed.

Lena, lying on the stretcher, turned her head slightly.

“And I told him you would eventually stop whispering,” Lena said. “You would need a bigger lie.”

Ruiz nodded to an officer.

The officer opened a tablet.

The video played.

Vanessa appeared on the screen at the top of the stairs, leaning close to Lena.

“You should’ve left when I told you to,” Vanessa said in the footage.

Then came the shove.

Clear.

Cruel.

Undeniable.

Harold Bell covered his mouth.

Vanessa stepped back.

“That video is fake.”

Ruiz looked at her.

“You want to say that again after we recover the fingerprints from Mrs. Whitmore’s shoulder?”

Vanessa’s perfect face cracked.

Then she said the one sentence that changed everything.

“You don’t understand. Her husband told me to do it.”

The room went silent.

Lena closed her eyes.

Not because she was surprised.

Because she had finally heard the truth out loud.
