CHAPTER 3 — The Awakening Protocol

The world stopped.
Not metaphorically.
Literally.
Sound vanished.
Motion froze.
Even falling glass hung suspended in the air like time itself had been arrested.
Maya stood in the center of it all, still holding her baby—but now everything around her was silent, frozen, unreal.
Except her.
And the pendant.
It pulsed.
Once.
Twice.
Then something inside her clicked open.
A flood of memories that were not human.
Training simulations.
Battlefields that no country admitted existed.
A name repeating over and over:
ECHO-7
Her eyes snapped open.
But they were no longer the same.
Cold focus replaced fear.
Breathing stabilized.
Her posture shifted—subtle, controlled, precise.
Vance saw it immediately.
“No…” he whispered. “It’s starting.”
The frozen world trembled.
Then time resumed.
But Maya was no longer where she had been.
She had moved.
Without anyone seeing.
She stood directly in front of the masked soldier who had grabbed her.
And spoke in a voice that wasn’t hers.
“Release classified asset.”
The soldier hesitated.
That hesitation cost him everything.
She touched his wrist.
Once.
A soft movement.
Barely visible.
The soldier dropped instantly.
No sound.
No struggle.
Just collapse.
Silence exploded through the hall again.
Victoria stared, mouth open, unable to comprehend what she was witnessing.
Maya slowly looked down at her own hands.
Shaking again.
Human again.
“What… did I just do?”
Vance didn’t answer.
Because for the first time in his career—
He looked afraid of her.
Outside, sirens finally began to rise in the distance.
But now they weren’t coming to save anyone.
They were coming to contain her.
Vance tightened his grip on his weapon.
And whispered the truth he had been trying to avoid for twenty-three years:
“You didn’t awaken, Maya…”
“You were reactivated.”
May you like
“And now the world is going to decide whether you are a weapon…”
“…or an extinction event.”
