Chapter 8: The Truth About Clara’s Father

Nobody spoke.

Daniel’s words changed the atmosphere instantly.

Clara stared at him.

“What did you say?”

Daniel smiled.

“For ten years, you blamed my family for destroying yours.”

He slowly walked down the staircase.

“But you never asked the most important question.”

Clara’s hands tightened.

“What question?”

Daniel stopped halfway.

“Who gave your father the information that ruined him?”

Emily looked confused.

“What is he talking about?”

Daniel looked at Clara.

“Your father wasn’t betrayed by the Carters.”

Clara’s expression hardened.

“Don’t lie.”

“I’m not.”

Daniel threw a document onto the floor.

Clara picked it up.

Her eyes moved across the page.

Then stopped.

Impossible.

“No…”

Margaret stepped closer.

“What is it?”

Clara couldn’t answer.

Emily picked up the document.

It was an old investigation report.

The signature at the bottom belonged to someone Clara knew.

Her own father.

But the report showed something shocking.

He had not been investigating Carter Industries.

He had been working with them.

Clara’s entire understanding of the past began collapsing.

“My father…”

Her voice shook.

“He betrayed us?”

Daniel smiled.

“That’s what everyone wanted you to believe.”

Emily looked at him.

“Then tell the truth.”

Daniel’s expression changed.

For the first time, he looked serious.

“Your father discovered something bigger than financial fraud.”

The room became silent.

“He discovered that several powerful families had been secretly controlling companies, politicians, and banks for decades.”

Margaret whispered:

“A hidden network.”

Daniel nodded.

“And when he tried to expose them, they destroyed him.”

Clara looked at him.

“Your family was part of it.”

Daniel’s smile faded.

“Yes.”

A long silence followed.

Then he continued.

“But my father wasn’t the person who ordered it.”

Emily frowned.

“Then who was?”

Daniel looked toward Richard.

Everyone turned.

Richard’s face lost all color.

“No…”

Clara stared at him.

“You knew.”

Richard stepped backward.

“I didn’t have a choice.”

Emily felt betrayed.

“Uncle Richard?”

Richard’s eyes filled with regret.

“I was young. I was desperate.”

Clara’s voice trembled with anger.

“You destroyed my family.”

Richard closed his eyes.

“I thought I was saving mine.”

Daniel laughed quietly.

“And that is why people like Richard are useful.”

The room went cold.

Because everyone realized something.

Daniel had never been the mastermind.

He was only one piece of a much larger plan.

Detective Walker reached for his radio.

But before he could call for help, the mansion doors opened.

Several men entered.

Not police.

Not security.

Private guards.

Daniel smiled.

“Now we can finally finish this.”

Emily held her stomach protectively.

Clara stepped in front of her.

Again.

But this time, they were surrounded.

And the secret hidden for ten years was about to destroy everyone in the room.
