Chapter 4 – The Enemy Wearing a Friend's Face

Chapter 4 – The Enemy Wearing a Friend's Face
The mansion erupted into chaos.
Armed guards flooded the hallways.
Lily instinctively ran toward Nora instead of her father.
Without thinking...
Nora wrapped both arms around the little girl.
"Stay behind me."
Vincent noticed.
And for one heartbreaking second...
He realized Lily no longer ran to the strongest man in the room.
She ran to the safest one.
The attackers never reached the family.
Security intercepted them near the west wing.
But one man surrendered almost immediately.
He kept asking for Vincent.
"I'll only speak to him."
Bound to a chair in the underground security room...
The captured assassin smiled through broken teeth.
"You've been hunting the wrong people."
Vincent remained silent.
"You think another family ordered the hit."
The man laughed.
"It came from inside your own house."
Luca slammed him against the wall.
"Who?"
The assassin looked directly at Vincent.
"Your accountant."
The room went silent.
Harold Pierce had worked for Vincent for eighteen years.
He knew every bank account.
Every shipment.
Every safe house.
Every weakness.
Impossible.
Until Luca received a phone call.
His face drained of color.
"Boss..."
"Harold's gone."
"So is forty-eight million dollars."
Hours later...
Vincent searched Harold's office personally.
Everything had been cleaned.
Except one forgotten photograph.
It showed Sophia...
Vincent's late wife...
Standing beside Harold.
On the back...
Sophia had written years earlier:
"Thank you for always protecting our family."
Vincent's blood ran cold.
Had Harold betrayed them...
Or had someone framed him after his disappearance?
The answer arrived the next morning.
Harold's abandoned car was found beneath an old bridge.
Inside...
May you like
There was blood.
But no body.
