CHAPTER 2: THE MAID WAS NEVER JUST A MAID

The bedroom lights flickered as intruders opened the safe again.
Marcus’s voice echoed casually:
“My uncle always trusted locks more than people. That was his mistake.”
Inside the closet, Vincent turned slightly toward Elena.
For the first time, he really saw her.
Not the maid.
Not the background.
But someone who had survived inside his world unnoticed for years.
Vincent whispered:
“How long have you known?”
Elena hesitated.
Then:
“Long enough to stop pretending I don’t.”
A faint click.
Her pistol shifted slightly against her hip.
Vincent noticed everything.
The way she stood.
The way she listened.
The way she already knew how this ended.
Outside, Marcus gave another order:
“Find the documents. The offshore accounts. The Black Ledger.”
Vincent’s jaw tightened.
Only a few people knew that name.
Too few.
Elena leaned closer.
“You don’t have a security breach, Vincent.”
May you like
Her eyes locked onto his.
“You have a family problem.”
