Chapter 3: The Return of Mercer

The private jet cut through storm clouds like a blade.
Marcus stood at the window the entire flight.
No sleep.
No food.
Just silence.
Beside him, a man from his past spoke carefully.
“If this is what you think it is… you understand what response this triggers.”
Marcus didn’t look away from the clouds.
“I’m not triggering anything,” he said.
“I’m correcting it.”
By the time they reached Los Angeles, the sky had turned black.
Waiting on the tarmac were three black SUVs.
No logos.
No identification.
Men who didn’t ask questions anymore.
Only followed orders.
At the mansion, Lily was fading.
Hours inside the closet had blurred into fear and exhaustion.
She could hear voices outside now.
Cassandra laughing softly.
Mr. Wells speaking too quickly.
“We move her after midnight.”
“Border paperwork is clean?”
“Clean enough.”
Lily’s eyes filled with tears.
She pressed the phone to her chest.
“Daddy…”
Then—
A sound outside.
Not a knock.
Not a voice.
A crash.
The front gate exploded inward.
Engines roared.
Lights flooded the mansion.
Cassandra’s voice snapped instantly.
“What is happening?!”
Then another sound.
Heavy footsteps inside the house.
Not servants.
Not guests.
Men who moved like storms had trained them.
Mr. Wells appeared in the hallway, panicked.
“That’s not police—”
Too late.
The front door was already gone.
And Marcus Mercer walked through it.
Slow.
Calm.
Dead silent.
Cassandra froze when she saw him.
For the first time, her perfect mask cracked.
“Marcus—”
He didn’t even look at her.
“Where is my daughter?”
His voice was quiet.
But it filled the entire house.
Lily heard it.
And broke into sobs inside the closet.
“Daddy!”
That was all it took.
Marcus moved.
He didn’t run.
He didn’t shout.
He simply walked upstairs.
And every man who tried to stop him regretted it before they hit the floor.
Cassandra backed away.
“This is a misunderstanding—”
Marcus finally looked at her.
And something in his expression made her step back instinctively.
“No,” he said.
“This is you choosing the wrong child.”
He walked past her.
Straight to the bedroom.
Straight to the closet.
He placed one hand on the door.
“Lily,” he said softly.
“I’m here.”
From inside, her voice shattered.
“Daddy!”
The door opened.
And the little girl flew into his arms like she had been holding her breath her entire life.
Marcus closed his eyes.
Held her tighter than anything in the world.
Behind them, the mansion was already being taken apart.
Cassandra screamed.
Mr. Wells was dragged away.
The empire she tried to build collapsed in minutes.
But Marcus didn’t look back.
He only held his daughter.
May you like
And whispered:
“No one sells you. Ever.”
